What is proposed
The Fishing Act will be amended so that the obligation to pay the fisheries management fee is extended to fishers aged 18 to 69 instead of the previous 18 to 64 years. Persons who reached the age of 65 before the entry into force of the act will retain their exemption from the fee.
What it means
The change applies to recreational fishers aged 65 to 69, who will have to pay the fisheries management fee (47 euros a year in 2023). The number of persons liable to pay is estimated to increase by 17,500–25,000 people and fee revenue by 0.8–1.1 million euros by 2029, which will finance the management and supervision of fishing waters. The act will enter into force on 1 January 2024.
