Establishing the Finnish Food Authority
The Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira and the Agency for Rural Affairs (Mavi) will be merged into a new Finnish Food Authority at the beginning of 2019. At the same time, sectoral information management tasks from the National Land Survey of Finland and the supervision of the use of plant protection products from Tukes will be brought together into the new authority.

Allowing temporary pesticide residue limits
The Finnish Food Safety Authority will be granted the right to set temporary national maximum limits for pesticide residues in exceptional cases. This will enable the granting of emergency authorisations for plant protection products to safeguard crop cultivation.

The food control planning obligations of municipalities and central government authorities will be eased to reduce the administrative burden. At the same time, the Finnish Food Safety Authority will be tasked with assessing health claims used in promotion campaigns for agricultural products.

Reforming veterinary practice rights and supervision
Applying for professional practice rights by veterinarians who qualified in another EU country will be made easier, and the exchange of supervisory information between authorities will be increased. At the same time, the processing of complaints concerning veterinarians will be streamlined.
