Surgical castration of piglets will not be banned in 2035; instead, the procedure will remain permitted after that with appropriate pain relief. At the same time, the supply of anaesthetics to pig farms for castrations will be made easier.

Clarifying qualification requirements for livestock handlers
Owners and keepers of production animals will be placed under an obligation to ensure adequate competence, instruction and staffing levels for handlers. The amendment will bring the Animal Welfare Act into line with the requirements of EU directives.
