Protection for craft and industrial products
An authority system will be established in Finland for the protection of geographical indications for craft and industrial products, such as textiles, ceramics and jewellery. The system will allow manufacturers to protect the names of their regional products against misuse and imitation across the EU.

Raising requirements for utility models
A utility model, or so-called petty patent, will require the same degree of inventive step as a regular patent. Small inventions that do not reach patent level will no longer be eligible for industrial property protection.

Permanent authorisation for industrial property attorneys
The authorisation of industrial property attorneys will be made valid until further notice, meaning it will no longer need to be renewed every five years. At the same time, the annual supervisory fee charged to attorneys will be increased.

Reforming and streamlining trade mark protection
The procedures for applying for, protecting and revoking trade marks will be reformed to make them more flexible and clearer. Trade marks will also be registerable as a mere sound file, for example, without any requirement for a graphical representation.

Clarifying and strengthening trade secret protection
A new Trade Secrets Act will be enacted in Finland, consolidating the protection of trade secrets into a single act and improving the remedies available to businesses to address the unauthorised use of secrets. At the same time, the act will protect the right to report wrongdoing and an employee's right to provide necessary information to a shop steward or employee representative.
