The rules on food control will be reformed and authorities' supervisory powers increased, including with regard to online sales. At the same time, red tape related to food business operators' in-house control will be reduced.

Allowing temporary pesticide residue limits
The Finnish Food Safety Authority will be granted the right to set temporary national maximum limits for pesticide residues in exceptional cases. This will enable the granting of emergency authorisations for plant protection products to safeguard crop cultivation.

Clarifying testing of pesticide equipment
The mandatory inspection timetables for pesticide application equipment would be amended to align with EU regulations. New equipment would only have to be inspected five years after purchase, and less frequent inspections would be permitted for low-risk equipment.

Easing pest control requirements for farmers
Farmers who have completed a plant protection qualification will be permitted to use professional pest control products without a separate pest controller qualification. In addition, using chemicals in breach of EU authorisation terms will be made punishable.
