Fisheries obligations for old hydropower plants
Old hydropower plants may in future be subject to fisheries obligations, such as constructing fishways or paying fisheries fees, even if their permits do not already include them. The aim of the amendment is to revive migratory fish stocks and promote aquatic biodiversity.

Reforming Teno River fishing rules
A new fishing rule between Finland and Norway will be introduced for the Teno River water system to revive weakened salmon stocks. At the same time, fishing for other fish species and the harmful invasive pink salmon will be enabled, as well as the maintenance of Sámi fishing culture through derogation permits.

Catch reporting for recreational fishers
Recreational fishers will be required to report their catches of certain species, such as salmonids and invasive alien species. The Natural Resources Institute Finland will begin compiling regular reports on the state of fish stocks to support decision-making and fisheries management.

Extending the Tana River fishing rules
The fishing rules for the Tana River between Finland and Norway will be extended by two years until May 2024. The extension will ensure the protection of salmon stocks and provide additional time for negotiating new fishing rules.

Allocating fishing quotas to commercial operators
Finland's marine fishing quotas for Baltic herring, sprat and salmon will be allocated directly to commercial fishers as transferable quotas.
