Reforming battery and waste shipment rules
Provisions on extended producer responsibility for batteries and accumulators and on international waste shipments are reformed to bring them into line with EU regulation. At the same time, the cost liability of producers of electrical and electronic equipment for legacy equipment is limited.

Limiting municipal waste management responsibility
Statutory municipal waste management responsibility will be limited to ordinary homes and holiday homes, leaving care homes and other housing units for health and social services to manage their waste themselves. At the same time, Tukes (the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency) will be tasked with supervising compliance with EU battery requirements.

Conformity assessment system for batteries
Finland will introduce rules supplementing the new EU Batteries Regulation on inspection activities for batteries and accumulators. The Ministry of the Environment will begin approving and supervising official conformity assessment bodies that inspect the safety and sustainability of batteries.
