Convention against workplace violence and harassment
Finland is to approve the International Labour Organization (ILO) convention protecting employees and others in the world of work from violence and harassment. The convention obliges the state and employers to prevent inappropriate conduct in working life and to strengthen legal remedies for victims.

Expanding crew reporting for fishing vessels
Masters of all commercial fishing vessels must submit the vessel's crew list ashore before departure or immediately after departure if the vessel employs hired labour. The amendment aims to improve the safety of fishers and speed up search and rescue operations in accidents.

Employment protection for victims of piracy
The employment contract and payment of wages of a seafarer held captive as a result of piracy or armed robbery will continue throughout captivity. In addition, the rules governing rest periods and complaint procedures for ship personnel are clarified.

Flexible maritime certificates and working hours
Inland waterway transport will move from limiting overtime to limiting total working hours for employees working on a shift-rotation system. In addition, the validity of a maritime labour certificate for a vessel in international traffic may be temporarily extended by up to five months if delivery of the new document is delayed.
